Artist Statement / Biography
Monika Kovatsch' works are the modern reinterpretation of abstract art. The visual expressions of her works are a true inspiration to the senses. Despite the optical harmony, she manages to reflect contemporary statements in her works. This is only possible through a special technique, where the flow is important. Current events could not play a greater role than in her works, which were all created in the Munich area in Germany.
Influenced by her work with satellite data, e.g. at the German Aerospace Center, where she gained experience with projects in Africa but also within Europe, she is very familiar with topics such as the refugee crisis due to climate change, but also with the associated challenges for the future. Together with Doctors without Borders, she already showed in 2016 connections between the transmission of malaria by the Anopheles mosquito, by visual observation of the water via satellite images (WorldView-2). Monika Kovatsch is holding a Master in Environmental Planning and Ecological Engineering. After her graduation at the Technical University of Munich, she started her career as a Junior-Expert for Land Use Classifications. In her latest job she worked for the government to conserve nature, before she started her career as an international artist.
