Artist Statement / Bio

Natascha Maas was born in Schloss Neuhaus and is living in Hamburg, Germany.

It took some time for her realizing that painting needs to become an essential part of her life. Now she is spending most of her time creating her abstract and figurative works in her studio. Starting from scratch, she is developing an idea by putting paint on canvas layer over layer. Her choice of colors and materials is spontaneous, following her moods during the process of painting.

Abstract of figurative? “That’s a late decision to make.”

Natascha loves using different materials but her favorite is acrylic paint. “Drying quickly, its opacity is just great and its brilliance unbeaten.”  Spray, ink, oil paint and pastel chalk are used as well, sometimes also pastes and monotypes. Their interaction is part of her artistic process and craftsmanship. “I don’t follow any rules while expanding my creative leeway.”

“My art is made to color up the world. I like to inspire the observers’ own creativity leaving room for fantasy.”
